Our mission is to continuously address, improve, sustain and enhance public safety in the State of Arizona through the coordination, cohesiveness and effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System.
Counties for the Arizona Rx Misuse and Abuse Initiative were chosen based on a set of three criteria:
- 1. Evidence of severe Rx problem among youth and adults demonstrated across multiple data sources
- 2. Willingness to use data-driven-decision-making to target and tailor implementation to specific geographic areas and demographic populations within the county
- 3. Capacity for implementation, including coalitions and working groups consisting of members from the 3 domains of law enforcement, medical/tx, prevention
Originally, the Initiative was piloted in three sites: Yavapai County, Pinal County, and Graham/Greenlee County. Since the conclusion of the pilot project, the Initiative has expanded to include Mohave County. Inclusion of a new county was based on the same criteria: evidence of a problem, a willingness to utilize data-driven-decision-making, and a capacity for implementation. The addition of Mohave County denotes the progress of the Arizona Rx Misuse and Abuse Initiative as it moves forward with the mission of reducing prescription drug misuse and improving the health of Arizona’s communities and families.
